Hello Fellow bloggers today for Summer Learning Journey we had to describe our hometown. My hometown is Kaikohe. K
aikohekohe with kai meaning to eat and kohekohe meaning a tree. Kiakohe can be really graet and really bad at times I love my home though. Blog you later
Congratulations on your first post Charlie-Jo.
ReplyDeleteI live in Opua, not too far from you. Your post made me read up what Opua means and I was surprised to find that pua pua are leaves used to wrap food. Adding an O in the front like in Opua means the food was packed for a journey.
You can read more about it here at the New Zealand Herald https://www.nzherald.co.nz/northland-age/lifestyle/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503396&objectid=11086156.
Mōrena Charlie-Gurl!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. Well done on starting your summer learning journey! I am so happy that you are coming on this journey with me. This is my first year being a blog commentator and I have just completed my second year studying to become a teacher. I am looking forward to hearing all the beautiful, knowledgeable and diverse ideas that you have to offer and I am also looking forward to learning from you.
You will also notice that there are two Georgia's on this cluster so just keep a look out for 'Georgia E' which is me and the other Georgia will sign off as 'Georgia'.
You are so lucky to live in the beautiful Kaikohe. I had the pleasure of visiting a couple years ago for the first time and I was blown away by how nice and welcoming the community is. My marae is actually in Kaikohe, the beautiful Kohewhata marae. I went there in summer and wish I got to visit the Ngawha springs but we ran out of time.
Thank you for sharing the meaning of Kaikohekohe, I did not know this.
Have you ever been to the Ngawha springs?
I am really looking forward to learning more about you and reading your exciting blog posts!
Cheers,
Georgia E
